Gender and sports -- we're all fucked.

The WCWS is tied at one game apiece, and the third and deciding game has just begun.
She said: Lloyd Carr is a well-known and longtime supported of women's sports, and he offers a scholarship to a female athlete at Michigan every year.

Let me count the ways in which this pisses me off.

Carr took Michigan to a BCS game last January, a game worth approximately $8 million to the Big 10. Carr is getting his stadium renovated (again); the Big House already seats over 100,000, and is packed for every single home game (all six of them). Carr makes well over a million dollars a year in salary, some of it donated by Michigan boosters and alumni. Carr coaches a sport that has at the moment not one but three different sexual assault scandals going.

And he generously gives a scholarship to a female athlete at Michigan, and these announcers are happy about this. Good for him. I doubt Karl Dorrell does the same at UCLA. I know Tedford doesn't at Cal. But that Carr, he's a class act.

I hate gender politics in the United States. And George Bush wants to gut Title IX. What a wonderful idea.
